Forth Seabird Group
Forth Seabird Group is a voluntary group which was formed on 14th November 1993 and is itself an umbrella group which was set up to bring together various organisations (eg. Nature.Scot, RSPB, SWT, etc) and individuals (Bob Smith, Ron Morris), connected with the monitoring of breeding seabirds in the Forth Estuary. The forerunner of FIHG’s current seabird section, then loosely referred to as the ‘Inner Forth Islands Group’, built up the monitoring of seabirds and other wildlife on most of the inner Forth islands during the early 1990s.
However, during the early months of 2020 uncertainty over the future of Forth Seabird Group, resulted in the ‘Inner Forth Islands’ Group’ coming under the umbrella of FIHG and forming its seabird section.
The Forth Seabird Group section of FIHG focuses its seabird monitoring interests primarily on the islands of Inchkeith, Inchcolm, Carr Craig, Haystack, Inchgarvie and Inchmickery, though the latter island is managed by the RSPB. However, an interest in the East Lothian islands of Bass Rock, Craigleith, Fidra and The Lamb, which has prevailed over many years, is still maintained.
